CENTER SATURDAYS  
Parents and children are invited to join us as we explore nature every Saturday morning from 10 to 11:30 at the Wetlands Education Center, 93 Main St. in Unity. Most sessions include time outdoors and will be facilitated by FUW staff and community volunteers. Free. Pre-registration encouraged.
NEW THIS SUMMER - FUW brings its children's programs to the Unity farmers' market on the Second Saturday of each month, beginning May 10. The market is located at the Unity Community Center, 32 School St.

Upcoming sessions:
May 10 International Migratory Bird Day at Unity Market Day (Unity Community Center). We'll go for a walk and build birds nests.
May 17 Sunflower House & Bean Tepees Part I Ground work begins for the planting of natural hideaways at Triplet Park. This week, we'll build some of the planting boxes. Meet at the Unity Wetlands Education Center.
May 24 Sunflower House & Bean Tepees Part II
Come prepared to get dirty as we begin to build a house made entirely of sunflowers and a tepee made of bean stalks.
May 31 Sunflower House & Bean Tepees Part III
We'll continue to make hide-outs at Triplet Park.

STATE & REGIONAL EVENTS OF INTEREST  


MGFN Pasture Walk 2-4 p.m. Friday, May 23 at Longmeadows Farm, Benton. Dr. Beth McEvoy will teach paticipants various techniques for dehorning and castrating calves. Some hands-on opportunities. If time permits Xandy Brown will lead a walk to see one or both of his new pasture watering systems. Contact Xandy at 873-5212 or email.

MORE FUW ACTIVITIES

NEMO Workshop, May 13
NEMO, or Nonpoint Education for Municipal Officials, is an educational program for land use decision-makers and interested citizens that addresses the relationship between land use and natural resource protection, with a focus on water resources. The 6 p.m. workshop at the Unity Centre for the Performing Arts will explore the links between land use, water quality and community character. Dinner will be served. The program is free but space is limited. To register, please contact the Friends of Unity Wetlands.

Connor Mill Trail Work, June 7
Celebrate National Trails Day with an afternoon of trail work at Connor Mill Trail in Unity. Meet at the trail head parking area on Routes 202/9 at 1 p.m. Bring water, loppers or pruners if you have them, and be prepared for mosquitos and black flies.

Carlton Pond Paddle, June 28
Bring your canoe or kayak and join FUW and Friends of Sunkhaze Meadows National Wildlife Refuge for a leisurely morning paddle, beginning at 9 a.m. This expansive pond and bog teems with waterfowl, turtles, frogs and fish. Launch site is on the Bog Road, off Route 220, in Troy. Contact FUW for driving directions.
